00About BlueStone

A firm built on one
unfashionable idea.

You should own the software your organization runs on. Renting it made sense while custom builds were slow and expensive. That stopped being true, and almost nobody has repriced their stack since. BlueStone exists to do that repricing, then build the thing you keep.

Why this firm exists.

Eric Todhunter, founder and CEO of BlueStone AI Inc.

Eric Todhunter

Founder & CEO · Vancouver, BC

A company Eric was previously partnered at went under. Plenty of things contributed, but one of them was software overhead: a stack of subscriptions in a thin-margin niche, each one priced as though the vendor were a partner in the business rather than a line on the invoice. None of those tools fit the work properly. All of them renewed anyway.

The same pattern shows up in almost every teardown we run. Businesses paying every month for software that does most of the job, with the rest living in a spreadsheet. Public bodies locked into platforms they cannot modify. Nobody choosing it, exactly. Everybody inheriting it.

What changed is the price of the alternative. Building the exact thing you need is no longer an eighteen-month capital project, so the reason to rent went away and the bills did not. BlueStone was started to act on that, in plain terms, with numbers a client can check.

02How we operate

Four things we will not bend on.

Principle 01

Owning beats renting past year two and a half

A $12,000 a year subscription is $120,000 over ten years, and about $151,000 once the annual increases land. A $30,000 build is $30,000 over the same period, and it is yours. If your numbers say otherwise, we will tell you to keep the subscription.

Principle 02

The tool fits the business

Not the other way around. The most repeated tell in our teardowns is a team quietly working around their software with a spreadsheet nobody will admit to maintaining.

Principle 03

Custom is not slow anymore

A tight scope and a focused build ship in weeks, not the eighteen months that made renting the sensible default in the first place. The whole firm is built around that having changed.

Principle 04

No lock-in, including ours

You own the source, the data, and the IP on final payment. Support is optional and hourly, never a monthly fee for existing. If we are still working together in year three it is because the work is worth it.

We are your technical partner, not a salesperson moving a unit. We build it, we stay next to you, and you keep it.
How BlueStone works
03How the work gets done

Founder-led, start to finish.

Few clients at a time. Fixed quotes. We do not start a project we cannot finish properly.

01

Who you talk to

Eric takes the first call, writes the scope, and stays in the build through handover. No account manager, no handoff to someone you have not met.

02

How the work gets staffed

BlueStone bids as prime and brings in vetted senior engineers on award, named and approved by you before they start, with their cost already inside the quoted price.

03

What that buys you

We stay lean by design, so the overhead of a larger shop does not end up in your invoice, and nobody is being trained on your budget.
